Green Cycle

Challenge
Environment
Web-Based Tool

Green Cycle empowers individuals and communities to manage recyclable waste effectively. This platform combines a website and mobile application to connect people and resources.

This is a group project I worked with Pittawas Choochuea. We focused on using donations as a method to help reduce the number of improper disposals of waste.

Research
Waste Management in Thailand

Thailand's 2016 waste report (Pollution Control Dept.) revealed 27.06 million tons of waste generated. Only 21% were reused, while 27.06 million tons of waste generated. Only 43% were improperly managed (using a furnace without a pollution control system, open burning, and open dump)

Current Systems Analysis

In preparation for development, we conducted a study of modern recycling and waste-forwarding systems. This included a comprehensive analysis of functionalities, advantages, and disadvantages for both website and mobile applications.

Currently, there's a lack of centralized platforms to help find waste forwarding or donation projects. For NOSTRA Map, even though they mapped the addresses of each campaign, it is not possible to search for them by the specific type of waste material. Furthermore, most platforms that provide recycling guides are not fully functioning in Thailand.

Surveys

With 57 Participants, we surveyed and asked for individual opinions on “Waste management behavior” through Google Forms.

User Requirements

We gathered participant feedback to identify factors that would encourage them to embrace waste separation and donation.

Functional Requirements

💻 Admin

  • Manage database, and add new material information to the system.
  • Verifies user accounts and approves new material requests submitted by users.

🏭 Product Owner

  • Can register their product, and must specify the material in that product.
  • The system will generate a QR code, product owner must produce or stick the QR Code on each registered product's packaging.
  • Can also request new material.

👧🏻 Consumer

  • Can searchfor specific donation campaigns.
  • Can learn how to properly dispose of each type of garbage by scanning QR codes on the packaging or uploading pictures with QR codes in them.

🌳 Contributor

  • Can register their campaigns on our platform.
  • Can request new material if it isn’t available in our system.

Design
Wireframe
With our flow settled, as we decided to develop the web first, I started designing Medium Fidelity Wireframe on Figma, from website to mobile application, respectively. I did put some actual content on, to experiment how the overview would come out.

Firstly, Admin must register each recyclable item by filling out the information in the form. Later, the material will appear in the system just like in the mobile version as shown.

02
After logging in, owners can register products (like admins) and receive QR codes for packaging. Consumers can now scan these codes to access product info.

Likewise, when logging in, Contributor can register their campaign, fill out the form, and wait for the consumer to discover!

Consumers can scan the QR code on their waste (part of Green Cycle!) or upload a picture to learn how to recycle or donate it.
